Rules

1) The competition will take place in Bilbao from 1 until 6 November 2010. Candidates from any country can take part in the International Voice Competition of Bilbao. Contestants must be aged from 18 to 33 years old.

2) No one will be admitted who has previously won a first prize in the International Voice Competition of Bilbao.

3) The number of applications accepted during the XII International Voice Competition of Bilbao will be 400. No more entries will be accepted.

4) Entries postmarked later than July 31, 2010 will not be accepted. Applications should include the following:

a) A DVD, PAL SYSTEM, WITHOUT MANIPULATE, standard format, direct recorded, with TWO OPERATIC ARIAS OF THE PROGRAM, acompanied by piano or orchestra. It will not be returned

b) Copy of Passport or Identity Card.

c) Brief "Curriculum Vitae"(studies, school, teachers, and professional activities,etc).

d) Two recent photographs, one of postcard size and the other 3,5 x 4,5 cm. Size.

e) Proof of payment of application fee (60 € free of charge) at bank named in point 5 below.

f) Entry form duly completed in Type or else in Block Letters (Roman, not Cyrillic, not Korean, not Japanese, not Chinese), with the definitive programme. This programme cannot be altered.

5) Entry Fee: Entry fee will be 60 € FREE OF CHARGE, for the 2010 Competition. It must be deposited at:

Alternatively, this amount can be sent by postal order . BANK CHECKS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. No entry application will be considered from 31 July 2010. This amount will be refunded in no case.

Each candidate, whose application has been admitted, will receive an official notification of admission status, as well as the correspondent application number. Contestants will abide by the rules of the Competition.

From 31 July, received DVDs will be examined and Semifinalists will be selected. On Monday, 13 September 2010, all applicants will receive a letter /email to inform who has been selected. This information will be published in our website too.

All those singers who have been selected and pass directly to the Semifinal, must take part in the draw to establish the participation order during the Semifinal, on November 1st.

6) CONTRIBUTION – HOTEL: The office of the International Voice Competition of Bilbao will pay for the lodge and buffet breakfast of those contestants who have been selected, from their arrival on November the 1st until they will be eliminated of the Competition.

7) Test: The Competition will consist of three tests: DVD selection, Semi-final and Final.

All those participants who have obtained a First Prize in any of the International Voice Competitions which belongs to the World Federation of International Music Competitions, and if they ask for it and justify before October, will pass directly to the Semifinal . They must be present in the draw of Semifinal on November 1st.

8) The draw to establish the participation order during the Semifinal will take place at Hotel Barceló Nervión on 1 November 2010. Every contestant must be present.

After the draw, the Competition Office will assign an accompanying official pianist for each contestant. Contestants are entitled to one rehearsal before each performance of the competition. Rehearsals will follow the order of performance.

9) All repertoires must be sung in the original language and from memory. Key changes are NOT permitted in operatic arias.

Those operatic arias, which include "recitative" and "cabaletta", must be sung complete.

Monolingual programs will not be accepted. The contestant must be able to sing in, at least, two modern languages, included in the program of the operatic arias.

The contestant will not be allowed to modify the program he has submitted. The Competition Office reserves the right to reject those programmes they consider being of insufficient musical calibre.

10) The members of the Jury will judge and classify the contestants' performances. They will choose their own method of operation, and their decision will be final.

11) The Competition Office reserves the right to make the changes they consider convenient in the rules of the competition, the system of DVD-selection, Semi-final and Final, as well as in any other point about the competition if they see fit.

12) The Organization of the Competition reserves the right to use any photograph taken or recording made, by a local, national or international medium, be it press, radio or television. No payment will be due to a contestant in the event of publication/broadcast of such a photograph or recording.

13) The amount of the prizes is gross, so the taxes will be deducted.
